When will the new Special Group license plates be available?
The redesigned Special Group License Plates will be available July 1, 2026.
Will I automatically receive the updated Special Group License plate?
No. You will not automatically receive the updated plate. To order the new design, you must request a replacement plate on or after July 1, 2026. To request a replacement plate go to mvp.tax.utah.gov and click on the “Change your plate” link that is located under the License Plates and Decals section. You may also order the new design in person at any DMV location. We recommend scheduling an appointment if you choose to go to an office. New plate fees will apply.
How do I switch my current Special Group license plate to the new license plate?

What is the cost of switching my current Special Group license plate to the updated license plate?
For a passenger vehicle, the cost to switch is a $23.75 plate fee. For a trailer plate the cost to switch is $22.75 and for a motorcycle (where applicable) the cost to switch is $17.25.
How do I switch my current Standard license plate to a Special Group license plate?
You can order your new plate online at mvp.tax.utah.gov and click on the “Change your plate” link that is located under the License Plates and Decals section. You may also order the new design in person at any DMV location. We recommend scheduling an appointment if you choose to go to an office. This can be done at the time of renewal or at any time during your registration period.
What is the cost of switching my current Standard license plate to a Special Group license plate?
The cost to switch includes a $23.75 plate fee and the required contribution fee for the specific special group. Please note that the contribution amount varies by plate type. Can I come into the office and pick up my plate?
No, license plates cannot be picked up in person at any office location. All license plates will be mailed directly to you.
What is the cost to transfer my Standard Personalized license plate to a Personalized Special Group license plate?
To switch your standard personalized plate to personalized special group plate there is a $75 personalized plate fee, the $23.75 plate fee, and the required contribution fee for the specific special group.
